The emergency drivers’ education

25.10.2023

Parliamentarians adopted amendments to the law “On Road Safety” in the second final reading. Drivers of emergency vehicles equipped with light and sound warning signals will be required to take additional courses on driving in emergency situations. It is connected with the number of accidents involving emergency services, as the official representative of the PMR Ministry of Internal Affairs noted in the Supreme Council in the course of the plenary meeting.

Thus, according to the PMR Ministry of Internal Affairs, 19 road accidents involving special vehicles occurred in the republic in 2020, drivers of special vehicles were at fault in 16 of which. There were 30 such accidents in 2021; the fault of drivers of special vehicles was established in 20 cases. Last year, 10 accidents involving special vehicles were recorded.

According to the adopted changes to the law “On Road Safety”, drivers of vehicles belonging to all emergency services without exception (ambulance, militia, fire and gas services, cash collectors, etc.) from 2024 will be required to take special driving courses. They will be organized on the basis of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The frequency of such training, as well as the duration of the courses, will be approved separately, by the relevant resolution of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

The new version of the law stipulates that additional training for drivers of budgetary organizations will be carried out at the expense of funds from the state treasury, so that employees do not have to pay for these courses. As for commercial organizations, they will bear the cost of training their drivers.

The law-in-draft was adopted by parliamentarians in the second final reading and will soon be sent to the President for signature.
