Cultural life of the village of Chobruchi

The village of Chobruchi, a state park-monument of landscape gardening art named after Dmitry Rodin. A temple of nature, a place for reflection and a real center of attraction. The 4-hectare park was founded in 1958 according to the design of sculptor Dmitry Rodin, and more than 70 species of trees and shrubs were planted. Artistic work was carried out in the park from 1973 to 1978. Cascades of waterfalls, fountains, artificial ponds, grottoes, openwork bridges, as well as many sculptural compositions appeared in it - the “Rock of Thoughts” in the shape of a bird’s wing, the sculpture “Kneeling”, the sculptural group “Young Man and Girl” planting a sprout and many other over time.

The park acquired its modern appearance by the early 1980s. The author sent materials about the park to the All-Union Competition of Landscape Art, which was held at All-Union Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy in Moscow in 1982. Totally 1600 projects from all republics of the USSR took part in the competition. The park in the village of Chobruchi entered the top five in the Union and was awarded a 1st degree Diploma and the Great Gold Medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements. Less than a year after the death of Dmitry Rodin the park in the village of Chobruchi was named after him in 2000.

The park was abandoned for a long time, but large-scale reconstruction began here a few years ago. We repaired the bowls of reservoirs and fountain systems, reconstructed the Swan Palace, the Eastern Rock with a self-portrait of Dmitry Rodin, equipped an observation deck and sidewalks, installed lanterns and lighting.

The work was carried out at the expense of the Capital Investment Fund, as well as within the framework of the state target program “Preservation of immovable objects of cultural heritage of the PMR”. The park was reopened to guests in the summer of 2022.

Regional festivals and concerts take place in the park named after Dmitry Rodin today. The real hallmark of the cultural life of the village was the discos.

Interest in discos in the Dmitry Rodin Park was growing, and a need arose for new sound equipment. Deputy of the Supreme Council for constituency Number 20 “Pervomaisky” Oleg Vasilaty, who represents the interests of the residents of Chobruchi in parliament and is himself a native of the village of Chobruchi, came to the aid.

The cultural life of the village literally sparkled with new colors. Discos quickly became popular not only among local residents. You can meet guests from Slobodzeya, Dnestrovsk, Tiraspol and even Grigoriopol in the park on summer Saturday evenings.

The number of cultural events in the village increased significantly after the reconstruction of the park and the acquisition of new sound equipment. The local House of Culture held 25 events in June of this year.

An open-air film show was first organized in the park at the end of June. Workers at the local House of Culture hope that this will be the beginning of a new tradition.

Residents of Chobruchi are not going to stop what they have achieved. The plans include reconstruction of the summer stage. Once upon a time it was a decoration of the park. Its condition leaves much to be desired today, but local residents are convinced that it is only a matter of time.
