A concert dedicated to Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War was held in Parkany School No. 1 named after Atanas Stoev. Vladimir Timofeev, Deputy of the Supreme Council for District No. 24 "Parkany", was invited to the celebration. Schoolchildren spoke in poems and songs about the hardships experienced by children during the war, about the murder of sons in front of their mothers, about the defenders of the Fatherland and their immortal feat. The students prepared performances in memory of their great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers who liberated their hometowns and villages from the German-Romanian invaders.
The parliamentarian told the schoolchildren that when the war began, many were 16-17 years old. They added 1-2 years to their age in order to go and defend their homeland. The patriotism they showed, first of all, shows that they were thinking about tomorrow, Vladimir Timofeev noted. Preserving this gratitude and passing it on to future generations is a task that the younger generation of Pridnestrovians understands.
Senior schoolchildren, together with activists of the "Obnovlenie" Republican Party, handed out St. George ribbons to the audience – an integral attribute of the celebration of the Great Victory Day after the festive concert. Officers of the Russian Army wore the Order of St. George, established in 1769 by Empress Catherine II for bravery on the battlefield on a black and yellow ribbon. It is symbolic that on May 6, the day of remembrance of St. George the Victorious, the final defeat of the fascist army took place. Moreover, the Victory Parade in 1945 was hosted by Marshal Georgy Zhukov.
The "St. George's Ribbon" campaign was first held in Russia in 2005 in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory. Pridnestrovie joined the campaign on April 24, 2009. Activists of the "Obnovlenie" party have held the campaign every year since then.
