The compensation for acquired eye prostheses

Visually impaired from this year will receive compensation from the state for acquired eye prostheses. The Supreme Council adopted in the second final reading the relevant legislations initiated by the deputies of the Committee on Social Policy and Healthcare. The amount of the payment will depend on the amount that the disabled person will spend on the purchase of eye prosthesis. The maximum amount of compensation is 360 minimum wages (3492 rubles) for 1 prosthesis. These figures were suggested based on the average cost of an ocular prosthesis. Compensation will be paid once every 2 years.

The deputies redistributed the limits approved in the 2023 budget for financing the costs of prosthetics for payments. Previously, in order to provide disabled people with eye prostheses, Pridnestrovie entered into contracts with foreign manufacturing organizations, but this is not possible now. Therefore, parliamentarians from the profile committee have developed changes to the legislation.

The amount of 216 thousand rubles is planned for payment of compensations. The laws “On the Social Protection of the Disabled,” “On the Social Protection of War Veterans,” and “On the Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repressions” have been amended in addition to the law on the republican budget.

The adopted laws will come into force 30 days after signing by the President. The payment mechanism will be determined by the Government.

According to the data submitted to the Supreme Council by the Society of the Blind of Pridnestrovie, 29 people need to replace or install eye prostheses. There are also people in addition to them in the republic who are not members of the Society of the Blind, but also need eye prostheses.
