April 1 is a tragic date in the history of the city of Bendery and the whole republic. This day 25 years ago in the early morning Moldovan special police service officers broke into the city on armored vehicles and fired on duty the car of traffic militia, and then the patrol car of Pridnestrovian Guard. The bus with workers of a cotton spinning factory was under bombardment. 7 people were killed then: guardsmen, militiamen and one peaceful resident. In the course of the bloody battle, Grigory Echin, captain of the Bendery militia, was seriously wounded. Doctors fought for his life for two months, but the hero could not be saved. A Street was named in honor of the deceased captain, where everything happened. Later, the chapel was erected on the site of the tragedy, and last year a memorial sign was erected.
Today, the meeting was attended by President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Speaker Alexander Shcherba, deputies of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Anton Onufrienko, Oleg Belyakov, Sergei Khankevich, Oleg Petrik, Andrei Safonov, the first president of Pridnestrovie Igor Smirnov, heads of ministries and Departments.
The President emphasized that April 2, there was not an army operation, but a terrible terrorist act aimed at destabilizing the situation.
Speaking at the meeting, Igor Smirnov called April 1, 1992 - "a day of shame for all the ruling structures of Moldova, who began the genocide of their own people". The first president of Pridnestrovie appealed to the young generation of Pridnestrovians.
Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba said there is necessity remember and honor those who died defending our homeland, as well as not forgetting the defenders who were alive.
After April 1, 1992, residents of Bendery still had to survive the bloody summer, which killed almost half a thousand residents. The main burial of the dead heroes is at the Borisovskoye Cemetery. Today, there was a funeral service. Townspeople, city defenders, relatives of the deceased and the authorities of the republic laid scarlet carnations to the granite slabs.
