The 35-meter obelisk in the form of a Soviet soldier's rifle bayonet remained unchanged. Several large information panels appeared on the Kitskany bridgehead. They are made in marble. The main events of the Iasi-Chisinau operation that took place at the end of August 1944, and preparations for it, as well as scenes of air combat and the crossing of Soviet soldiers across the bridge over the Dniester, are carved in stone.
The construction of the memorial complex began in 1968 and was completed by the Victory Day 4 years later. The complex of military glory was designed by a native of Dubossary, architect Semyon Shoikhet. It has not been restored for half a century of its existence. Restoration work was carried out here at the expense of the Capital Investment Fund this summer at the initiative of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky.
The renewed Kitskany bridgehead was solemnly opened by a veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vladimir Gromov, a member of the public organization Veterans of War, Labor and Armed Forces of Dnestrovsk Nina Koshinyan, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, as well as future defenders of the Motherland – Pupil of the Suvorov Military School, cadet and Youth Army member. All guests were given the first tour of the memorial complex. They showed not only external changes, but also talked about the events of August 1944. The Kitskany bridgehead is included in the tourist map of Pridnestrovie. The President noted that it is interesting for the younger generation.
Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed his gratitude to the veterans and those who took part in the implementation of a significant project for the preservation of history.
Everything spoke about the events of August 1944 on the day of the opening of the Kitskany bridgehead after reconstruction: the military with the standards of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, the 2nd Ukrainian Front, the Black Sea Fleet and the Danube military flotilla, soldiers and officers of which during the Iasi-Chisinau operations surrounded and defeated a powerful group and completed the liberation of the Moldavian SSR from the fascist invaders. Little-known facts and figures of losses sounded. The memory of the thousands of dead who gave their lives for the liberation of our region from the Nazis was honored with a minute of silence.
Wreaths and natural flowers were laid to the eternal flame at the foot of the obelisk not only from the President, the Chairman of the Supreme Council and the head of the government of the republic. People from all over the republic came to the Kitskany bridgehead with flowers on that day, including parliamentarians. So, red carnations in memory of the dead were placed at the eternal flame by Ilona Tyuryaeva, deputy of the PMR Supreme Council for constituency number 28 "Central", Ivan Nedelkov and Pavel Shinkaryuk, deputies of the PMR Supreme Council for constituencies of Slobodzeya district, parliamentarians from Bendery Ruslan Gareev and Anton Onufrienko.
The state administration of the Slobodzeya district plans to organize excursions for schoolchildren here in the new academic year. The bridgehead of Kitskany is open to anyone who wants to once again recall the events that took place on our land 78 years ago.
