Change, but not worsen

13.09.2017

Among the legislative initiatives developed by the Government, affecting the tax sphere, there are proposals to change the mechanism for levying a tax on the property of individuals. Parliamentarians discussed amendments to the relevant law during today's plenary session.

According to the representative of the Government, this is a bureaucratized procedure that is difficult to perform. Therefore, the author proposed to change the mechanism for calculating the tax - to abolish the commission and to combine in one category all objects of physical persons property, regardless of whether they are currently used for their intended purpose or not. At the same time, the Government proposed differentiating the tax rate for this category depending on the area of the object - from 0.05 to 0.14 MW per square meter.

Deputies during the discussion asked whether changes to the law, for example, would affect owners of such types of immovable property as objects not completed by construction. While the property is not put into operation, the property tax is not charged. Representatives of the executive body assured the deputies that the preferential treatment for this type of tax will continue.

By adopting the law-in-draft in the first reading and thus supporting its concept, the parliamentarians, however, did not agree with the proposal on the size of tax rates. This will be the subject of discussion of the law-in-draft in the second reading.
