Improving the quality and efficiency of justice, the openness of the judicial system and solving personnel problems are the main tasks facing the judicial authorities of Pridnestrovie. Deputies of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic heard TODAY in the course of the plenary session a report on the work of the PMR Supreme Court over the past year.

According to statistics from the Supreme Court, last year the district and city courts of the republic received 17791 cases, which is 15.5% more than in 2020. In 2021, 622 convicts were sentenced to real imprisonment, and 303 were suspended. 159 Pridnestrovians were sentenced to compulsory labor, 75 to corrective labor, and 154 were fined.

As part of the report, problematic issues in the work of the judiciary were raised. In particular, the workload of judges in criminal and civil cases is high, on average 87 and 66 cases per employee. Now the Judicial Department is analyzing the situation in order to develop measures for the optimal distribution of the workload on judges, said Adrian Penkovsky. The Supreme Court has special control over the work with appeals from citizens and state authorities.

Deputy Committee on Legislation, Protection of Citizens' Rights and Freedoms Grigory Dyachenko noted that the Supreme Council closely cooperates with specialists of the Supreme Court who participate in plenary sessions and working groups on relevant legislations.

According to the Chairman of the Supreme Court Adrian Penkovsky, the Judicial Department has developed websites for city and district courts. They are replenished with the necessary information at the moment. In addition, the republican budget for 2022 includes money for the purchase of server equipment in order to form an archive of cases and create a base for storing video recordings of court hearings.

44 judges completed additional training at the Russian State University of Justice last year. Further training of judges will improve the quality and efficiency of justice in the republic, according to the Supreme Court. 29 judges will be able to improve their qualifications in 2022, Adrian Penkovsky informed the deputies.

The deputies are satisfied with the submitted report of the judiciary. The parliamentarians adopted a resolution as a result of the discussion.
