Many enterprises of Pridnestrovie faced blockade measures from the Republic of Moldova in 2023, the export of manufactured products was limited or completely blocked. The introduction of new Moldovan customs duties at the beginning of the year increased pressure on the economy of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The trade turnover indicator decreased because of this by 5% compared to 2022, imports decreased by 6%, exports by 1%. The statistics were announced by the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Valentin Grabko, presenting a report on the results of the department’s work over the past year to the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky and invitees. he number of legal entities engaged in foreign trade in 2023 remained at the level of 2022, but the number of individual entrepreneurs involved in foreign economic activity almost doubled. The share of the latter in the total trade turnover is small – 3%, but the social aspect is important, noted Valentin Grabko. Their trade turnover amounted to $72 million. Imports of goods carried out by this category of foreign trade participants fell by 16%, and exports increased by 15%. Payments to the budget remained approximately at the 2022 level – $4.2 million.
The state provided support to economic agents of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic due to the negative consequences of external factors. Enterprises were exempted from paying customs duties, noted Valentin Grabko.
The head of the State Customs Committee focused in his report on simplifying and speeding up customs procedures. Changes were made to customs legislation for this purpose. Work in the process of improving customs procedures will be continued by the relevant department. Valentin Grabko spoke about the introduction of the Electronic Customs system, which allows for remote declaration of goods. The topic of customs infrastructure development was raised in the course of the reporting meeting. The State Customs Committee employees identified 1059 violations in 2023. 3.5 million rubles were collected from violators in the form of penalties and customs duties.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky aimed at further strengthening and developing productive interaction between customs authorities and the business community and government agencies. The President drew attention to the presence of some inconsistencies in the regulatory framework of the State Customs Committee with the current legislation, ordering them to be brought into compliance. Vadim Krasnoselsky aimed at continuing work related to minimizing the burden on participants in foreign economic activity and losses for the state. The President recognized the work of the PMR State Customs Committee based on the results of 2023 as satisfactory.
