The informational flash mob took place as part of the month of the white cane, which was organized by the deputy of the Supreme Council for district Number 28 “Central” Ilona Tyuryaeva. The events take place all this month. They began on October 15, which is International White Cane Day, and will end on the eve of November 13, International Day of the Blind.
The district has already hosted lectures for schoolchildren on preserving vision and excursions to the enterprise of the “Rassvet” society for the blind, a culinary competition for blind housewives and an excursion for the visually impaired to the monastery in Kitskany since October 15.
People with visual impairments have been living, working, relaxing and playing sports compactly in the center of the capital for many years. Traffic lights are equipped with sound signals, and intersections are equipped with special tactile tiles in this area. Activists of the youth movement of the "Renewal" party held a flash mob at such intersections. They were helped by students from the Tiraspol College of Commerce, which is also located in constituency Number 28. Activists and students distributed leaflets to pedestrians and drivers, which provided advice on helping and communicating with visually impaired people and reminded them of traffic rules.
The leaflets distributed to drivers reminded that a white cane in the hands of a blind person requires special attention and respect from all road users.
The white cane is a symbol of hope and support for blind and visually impaired people. This mass event was a small but right step towards a more friendly and attentive attitude towards people with disabilities. White Cane Month continues. There will be a concert at the end of next week in the course of which blind and visually impaired people will perform on the same stage along with professional artists.
