Igor Smirnov, “Our task is to strengthen the state”

13.03.2020

Today, members of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies discussed the draft appeal to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. According to Igor Smirnov, the Head of the advisory body to the Supreme Council, the reason was the violation of the signed agreements by Moldova. The first Pridnestrovian deputies listed the agreements signed from 1992 to 2018. This list includes the Memorandum on the Foundations of Normalizing Relations between the Republic of Moldova and Pridnestrovie (1997), the protocol on the mutual recognition of the validity of documents in the territory of the two states (2001), the decision on the participation of vehicles from Pridnestrovie in international traffic (2018 .) etc.

The first Pridnestrovian deputies in the appeal to the Russian leadership note the blocking of Moldova’s foreign economic activity of Pridnestrovian enterprises, the introduction of restrictions in the financial and banking sector, in the field of transport, communications, the movement of citizens and goods.

The Head of the Consultative Assembly, the first PMR president reminded those present about the events of the early 90s, the conditions for the formation, establishment and strengthening of Pridnestrovian statehood. Igor Smirnov expressed gratitude to Russia, which sent peacekeeping forces in 1992, which stopped military events on the banks of the Dniester.

The founders of the republic note that the inhabitants of Pridnestrovie consider themselves to be an integral part of Russia in the appeal to the Russian leadership. Pridnestrovians spoke out for joining the Russian Federation in the course of the referendum in 2006. 220 thousand Pridnestrovians have Russian citizenship. The first Pridnestrovian deputies, on behalf of Russian compatriots and residents of the republic, are asking Russia, as a guarantor country in the negotiation process, "to influence the Moldovan leadership with the aim of fulfilling all the previously signed documents and preventing a massive violation of human rights."

The prepared appeal of the members of the Consultative Assembly will be transmitted to the deputies of the Supreme Council. Then it will be sent to the President of the Russian Federation, and copies to the chairmen of the State Duma and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
