For reference. The first mention of Rybnitsa dates back to 1628 - at that time it was indicated on the fragment of the map of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1793, after the second partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Rybnitsa was part of Russia, since 1797 it was a settlement of the Molokishsky volost of the Balti county of the Podolia province. In 1924 Rybnitsa became a city-type settlement and a regional center of the MASSR, in 1938 it received the status of a city. August 5, 1941 Rybnitsa was occupied by the German-Romanian army. More than 8 thousand residents of Rybnitsa fought against the fascists at the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, almost half of them did not return home. On March 30, 1944, the city was liberated by units of the 41st Guards Rifle Division under the command of Major-General Konstantin Tsvetkov. After the war, Rybnitsa was rebuilt and became a major industrial center of Soviet Moldova. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, the residents of Rybnitsa initiated the referendum on the establishment of the PMSSR. Today Rybnitsa is a large industrial, educational and cultural center of Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, its "northern capital". The city maintains friendly ties with the twin-cities Vinnitsa (Ukraine) and Dmitrov (Russia).
