Grigoriopol celebrated 230 years since its foundation today. The holiday dedicated to the date was decided to be held in the city the day before, on the weekend. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky with his wife, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Alexander Korshunov and Chairman of the PMR Government Alexander Rosenberg came to congratulate Grigoriopol and the residents on the anniversary.
A real concert marathon was held in the city, and exhibitions could be seen everywhere in the center on the holiday. The guests of Grigoriopol were offered to take part in sightseeing tours, sports events, as well as to look at the festival of masters of arts and crafts and theatrical performance.
According to tradition, the celebrations began with the raising of the state and city flags, and the laying of flowers after that at the monument to the Grieving Mother and the slabs with the names of the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie. 12 natives of the Grigoriopol region were killed during the fighting on the Koshnitsky and Dorotsky bridgeheads from March 1 to July 1, 1992. They also laid flowers at the portrait sculpture of the founder of Grigoriopol, Catherine II, and a memorial sign installed at the place where on July 25, 1792, the Armenian Archbishop of Argun consecrated six stones: for the foundation of the cathedral church, for the city magistrate, and the rest – to mark the boundaries of the city. The most worthy received state awards from the hands of the first persons of the state in honor of the anniversary of Grigoriopol. A concert took place after the award ceremony.
“Grigoriopol is known for wonderful people who continue the list of glorious deeds for the benefit of the Fatherland, ready to invest in their native city and in the prosperity of Pridnestrovie a piece of their work, talent and soul. I want to express special gratitude on this festive day to the veterans and long-livers of Grigoriopol, who have made a significant contribution to its development. Their purposefulness and love for their native city is tenderly passed on to the younger generation and gives rise to a desire to make it even better and more beautiful,” said Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov.
The PMR President addressed the people of Grigoriopol with words of congratulations. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that the current stage of the transformation of Grigoriopol is the merit of local residents.
The guests walked along the park alleys after the concert, talked with the townspeople and saw the works of local craftsmen.
