04.10.2021

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the first meeting of the Russian State Duma of the VIII convocation will be held on October 12. The document allows the deputies of the lower house of the Russian Parliament of the new convocation to get down to work without waiting until 30 days after election. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Duma of the VII convocation Vyacheslav Volodin, the website of the State Duma of the Russian Federation writes.

Viacheslav Volodin has already signed an order on the formation of temporary deputy working group to prepare the first meeting of the State Duma of the VIII convocation. Its task is to prepare draft resolutions of the State Duma and other documents related to the beginning of the work of the VIII convocation of the chamber. It will approve the layout of the placement of deputies in the meeting room, form a draft procedure for the first plenary meeting, prepare proposals on the composition of the Counting Commission, the Interim Commission on the Rules and the Provisional Secretariat of the State Duma.

The elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VIII convocation were held from 17 to 19 September. Russian citizens elected 225 deputies from party lists and 225 from single-mandate constituencies. Russian citizens living in Pridnestrovie took part in the voting. The interests of Pridnestrovie in the State Duma of the Russian Federation will be represented by 7 deputies.

The deputies of the State Duma of the VIII convocation were registered by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation on September 29.

72 candidates who won on party lists have refused mandates. 66 of them are United Russia members, including four leaders of the party list - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Head physician of the Kommunarka hospital Denis Protsenko, and Head of the Sirius center Yelena Shmeleva. Of the top five of United Russia, only child rights ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova agreed to become a deputy. She will coordinate the protection of motherhood, childhood and family support in the State Duma.

Chairman of the State Duma of the VII convocation Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the composition of the lower house of Parliament has been renewed by 48.5%. Most likely, it is he who will again head the State Duma in the new convocation. Volodin's candidacy for this post was proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 25 in the course of the meeting with the leaders of the parties that won the Duma elections. The President specified that the leadership of the State Duma of the VII convocation has professionally built the work of the chamber, especially in a very difficult period of the fight against the pandemic. To a large extent, according to the head of state, this was done thanks to Viacheslav Volodin. "United Russia", "Fair Russia - for the Truth", the Liberal Democratic Party are ready to support the candidacy proposed by the President.

The leadership of the State Duma and the faction of the chamber before the first meeting must decide in what format in the new convocation the reports of the deputies to the voters will be held. The procedure should be organized in the near future and in such a way as to keep under control the fulfillment of election promises, Vyacheslav Volodin told reporters. This, according to the speaker, will increase the responsibility not only of the deputies, but of the entire government as a whole.
