New pipes are being laid for land irrigating at the pumping station in the village of Chobruchi, Slobodzeya district. The old ones could not cope with a large volume of water. The work is being carried out according to the program for restoration and development of melioration that came into force this year. The main pumping station in Chobruchi serves up to 10000 hectares of land, including Slobodzeya fields that used to belong to collective farms. The progress of work was inspected by the deputy of the Supreme Council for the constituency Oleg Vasilaty.
It is also necessary to bring electricity to the upper level pumping stations in order to increase the area of irrigated land, added the deputy from Pervomaisky constituency number 20. Oleg Vasilaty emphasizes the importance of the development of land reclamation. The republic lost the planned crop harvest due to the drought in 2019 and 2020. There were rains last year, but farmers prefer not the total amount of precipitation per year, but regular maintenance of the moisture level in the soil in order to grow better grain.
A mechanism of state support for agrarians has been operating in the republic for several years. A preferential tariff for water supply is applied for irrigation of agricultural land. Repair of pumping stations and land irrigation will help agricultural enterprises develop. This is the aim of the state program to restore land reclamation. The state plans to almost double the yield of agricultural crops over the five years of its operation.
