State support for veterans of Afghanistan

14.02.2019

Adopted laws demonstrate the attitude of the state to war veterans in Afghanistan. The legislation provides for a number of benefits and guarantees both in respect of directly participants in hostilities, and in respect of war invalids, widows and mothers who have lost their husbands and sons. One of the basic laws governing state support for international soldiers is the law On the Social Protection of War Veterans.

The participants have the right to free medications (their list has been established by the government), extraordinary and free dental prosthetics at polyclinics where they live, as well as free provision of other prosthetic orthopedic products. Among the social guarantees is the right to free travel in public transport and annual leave at a convenient time. The law provides Afghans veterans with a 50% discount on utility bills, the right to link landline with 50% discount.

Igor Buga, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Associations, Sports, Information and Youth Policy, spoke about what had been done for the soldiers-internationalists over the past two years. He also heads the Pridnestrovian Association of War Veterans in Afghanistan.

In addition, parliamentarians supplemented the law “On Excise Taxes”: veterans “Afghans” were granted the right to import duty-free cars for personal use. The Law on the Individual Entrepreneurial Patent defines for participants in hostilities a 70% benefit when paying for a patent. The law "On the republican budget for 2019" provides for a provision on the allocation of funds for the repair of vehicles received by veterans, According to Igor Buga, the problem of providing Afghans and their families with affordable housing remains unresolved. Work in this direction is already underway.
