The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the law "On Amendments to the Federal Law" On Citizenship of the Russian Federation "in terms of simplifying the procedure for admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation of foreign citizens and stateless persons". A foreigner, in order to obtain citizenship of the Russian Federation, may not to give up his citizenship.
It is proposed that citizens of Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan are granted the right to simplified admission to Russian citizenship if they have a residence permit, but without observing the established five-year period of residence in Russia.
The amendments relate to foreign citizens who live in the Russian Federation. The law adopted on April 17 does not apply to Pridnestrovians who do not live in Russia.
Appeals from the PMR leadership, including the Supreme Council, to the State Duma with amendments to simplify the adoption of Russian citizenship for Pridnestrovians will be considered in the future. The appeals are now being worked out, including by Russian parliamentarians, who represent the interests of Pridnestrovian residents. In the future, these proposals can be executed as a separate regulatory act or as amendments to the legislation of the Russian Federation.
