The Town of Military Glory

The first mention of Bendery, the foundation of the fortress on the Dniester, the Russian-Turkish war, the underground activity in the Great Patriotic War, the events of 1992 - all these milestones in the history of the glorious city, officially recognized as such. Bendery was awarded the honorary title of "City of Military Glory" for special services, the courage, steadfastness and mass heroism in the struggle for freedom and independence of the fatherland. The text of the Decree dated June 13, 2012, carved on a stone slab in the center of a new memorial complex erected at the entrance to Bendery. There is a golden coat of arms of the Republic on top of the 11-meter granite stele. Along the perimeter of the complex – there are commemorative stone tablets, about important in more than six centuries of history of the city events.

Leadership of the republic and the town, representatives of the parliament and government, veterans, citizens opened the monument. Created by local town planning design the complex was erected at the expense of caring people, its historical thread each of which communicates with Bendery.

The Great Patriotic War ended the life of 800 inhabitants of Bendery. In 1992, 489 residents of the town were killed. Flowers at the foot of the stele - is grateful descendants in living variety of colours. The teacher of Russian language and literature Elena Stovarskaya led to the opening of the memorial complex of its seventh-graders. The younger students are next to them. All of them - are grandchildren of defenders of PMR, great-grandchildren of the Soviet soldiers. The blood of patriots is in each of them.

The manuscript of veteran of WWII, Lieutenant Ivan Dmitrievich Panycheva was among disposals of young historians rangers. Great-grandfather of two students of the fifth school of Bendery went to the front in 19 years. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. He was seriously wounded. He was captured.
