Dear Pridnestrovians!
The 2006 referendum is a landmark event for our people. The results of the referendum showed that the multinational Pridnestrovian people remember their history and determined the independent path of development of our state. Representatives of different nations have lived and worked on the Pridnestrovian land for centuries. The history of the last 230 years connects us with Russia. Pridnestrovians share a common faith, language, culture and historical past with Russia.
Defending the right to live freely in their native land, preserving the historical memory of their ancestors, relying on the will of the people, Pridnestrovie has gone from a free economic zone in 1990 to an independent democratic state. Independence for Pridnestrovians has become a defense against attempts to divide the people by varieties. The 2006 referendum was the highest point of this defense. The voting results confirmed that the society in Pridnestrovie is united by one idea - building an independent state.
Russia is always near, and for many years the Russian soldier has kept peace in our land. Pridnestrovians are also supported by the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Following the 2006 referendum, they adopted a statement in which the international community is recommended to take into account the results of the Pridnestrovian plebiscite.
14 years have passed since the referendum was held. Pridnestrovie is living along the path of building an independent democratic self-sufficient multinational state. Throughout the history of the PMR, deputies of the Supreme Council have been harmonizing the legislation of our republic with the legislation of the Russian Federation. This brings us closer. I am sure that Pridnestrovie, as a multinational democratic rule of law, has a future.
Chairman of the Supreme Council
of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic
