14.03.2017

The Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin, who is in charge of the Moldovan- Pridnestrovian settlement issues, is on a regular visit to the capital of PMR, where he held talks with the leadership of the republic. The Pridnestrovian delegation also included the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba.

The main issue of the dialogue was the next intentions of Moldova and Ukraine to limit Pridnestrovie. We are talking about the possible establishment of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian border and customs posts on the territory of Ukraine at the "Kuchurgan" crossing. In this regard, the PMR political leadership expressed its justified concerns to the representative of the mediator and guarantor of the negotiation process. Grigory Karasin described these actions as "fraught with misunderstanding and aggravation of the situation". The Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry considers that it is possible to find ways to solve the problem of joint control of Ukraine and Moldova at the Kuchurgan checkpoint within the framework of the 5 + 2 negotiation format, whose work needs to be intensified.
