Meeting-requiem dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the Tiraspol battalion of the Republican Guard, who died 31 years ago, was held today at the Memorial of Glory in the capital. The mourning ceremony was attended by the First President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Igor Smirnov, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Galina Antyufeeva, representatives of state authorities, war veterans, representatives of public and youth organizations, relatives of the victims and citizens.
Vasily Voronkov, Leonid Tolstenko, Sergey Shinkov and Sergey Titovsky were killed on March 3, 1992 in the village of Kochieri Dubossary district during a battle with the Moldovan police who attacked a military unit, leading the wives and children of the 14th Army out of the shelling.
Four guardsmen who died 31 years ago in Dubossary are buried at the Memorial of Glory near the Eternal Flame. Portraits of heroes are in the hands of young Pridnestrovians who were born already in peaceful and free Pridnestrovie today.
Those gathered at the Memorial of Glory honored the memory of the heroes-guardsmen with a minute of silence and immortalized their exploits by laying flowers at their graves. 118 residents of Tiraspol were killed in the battles for the independence of the republic.
