Delegation of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights arrived in Pridnestrovie today. The Commissioner Dunja Mijatovic met with the leadership of the parliament and the heads of the committees on legislation, education and health in the Supreme Council. The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights said that her area of activity is the rights of people in the most vulnerable sectors of society. These are children, women, and people with physical and mental health problems. Dunja Mijatovic was interested in inclusive education, health issues and affordable housing.
The Head of the Parliament noted that Pridnestrovie has been cooperating with this international institution for a long time. The predecessor of the European Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg in 2012, provided Pridnestrovie with recommendations for improving the human rights situation. As a senior UN human rights expert in Pridnestrovie, Thomas Hammarberg was pleased with the work done and said that our republic is moving in step with the countries of Europe in the field of protecting human rights in 2019. Dunja Mijatovic talked about the state program for providing housing for orphans, about health care and education in the course of the meeting in the Supreme Council today.
Alexander Korshunov noted: there was not enough time to discuss all the issues. It is agreed that the next meetings with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights will touch on the topics of interaction with neighboring countries. First of all, with the Republic of Moldova on issues of the realization of human rights that are painful for Pridnestrovians, which are violated when adopting certain regulatory acts in the Republic of Moldova.
