Pridnestrovie lacks electricity for heating and cooking due to lack of gas: Pridnestrovians heat their apartments and houses with air conditioners and heaters, heat water with boilers and cook food on electric stoves.
On December 31 at 19:50, the supply of Russian gas from Ukraine was cut off. All industrial enterprises in Pridnestrovie, including Moldavian Metallurgical Plant, went into shutdown. A number of food enterprises are still operating. Schools, kindergartens, state and municipal institutions and organizations have been disconnected from heating. Almost 75 thousand subscribers do not have gas, 116 thousand subscribers will receive a limited amount of gas (mostly these are residents of multi-storey buildings to be able to use gas stoves and while there is gas left in the pipe), there is no heating in 1.5 thousand multi-storey buildings.
On January 1, the Moldavian GRES switched to coal-fired power generation. Rolling blackouts began in Pridnestrovie from 18:00 on January 3. The need for rolling blackouts arose due to the fact that electricity consumption by residents of the republic exceeded the generation capacity of the Moldavian GRES and Dubossary HPP. The republic was divided into 16 groups. The power will be disconnected in 4 groups, in turns. From January 4, electricity will be disconnected for 3 hours, and from January 5 – for 4 hours.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky explained in his telegram channel why the rolling blackouts have become longer. The head of state reported that power engineers are analyzing the effectiveness of rolling blackouts, determining the optimal frequency and duration, monitoring consumption and the map of emergency situations.
He noted the importance of everyone complying with fire safety requirements. Due to improper use of stoves, there have already been 5 fires since the beginning of the year. The President noted that heat power engineers have a lot of work now. In the first days of the year, they eliminated a serious main break in the heating main on the Dubossary section, four intra-block accidents in Grigoriopol, Tiraspol and Dubossary, as well as 548 intra-house breaks in the network. Specialists are working in an enhanced mode around the clock.
A procedure for the operation of medical institutions of the republic has been developed in accordance with the technical capabilities of the health care institutions due to restrictions on gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. The City Hospital in Dnestrovsk will continuously operate throughout the entire period of operation of the Moldavian GRES. Slobodzeya Central District Hospital, Republican Hospital for the Disabled of the Great Patriotic War, Republican Center for Mother and Child, Grigoriopol Central District Hospital, Republican Tuberculosis Hospital, Central City Hospital and Center for Mother and Child in Bendery will operate for about 20 days (the period of complete gas depletion in the pipe). After which they will continue to operate by means of diesel fuel. Central District Hospital in Kamenka and the Republican Psychiatric Hospital of the village of Vykhvatintsy will operate for 5 days (until the gas is completely depleted), and they will switch to liquid fuel then. We remind you that 20 days and 5 days are the days when the institutions will operate on the remaining gas in the pipe. The Republican Clinical Hospital will continue its activities, while the institution's heat supply will be provided by diesel fuel.
There are heating points where you can also get hot food in each city of Pridnestrovie. 41 on-duty kindergartens will be opened in the republic for children whose both parents work. Applications for admission of children are collected by Public education department. Schoolchildren plan to switch to distance learning after the holidays.
