Additions to the law “On burial and funeral business”

10.07.2024

The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic adopted amendments to the law “On burial and funeral affairs” in the second reading.

The author of the legislative initiative, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, emphasized that the new norms were initiated in response to requests from citizens. A family whose burial was located next to the grave of a Great Patriotic War veteran moved the monument to the veteran and buried their relative almost in his place in one of the cemeteries in the city of Bendery. City authorities were ready to restore the veteran’s grave, but could not find relatives of the offenders, so the start of work was postponed. Reburials are financed by relatives of the deceased or other persons who have taken on this responsibility, according to the law. The amendments to the law, adopted in the final reading, determine the sources of financing for reburials carried out in violation of current legislation. The municipality will be able to carry out such reburials and then recover the costs through the court, according to the new rule.

The parliamentary corps supported the law-in-draft unanimously; it will come into force 30 days after its official publication.
