Deputies of the Consultative Assembly will address Russia and international human rights organizations

The economy of Pridnestrovie last year and new challenges for enterprises under pressure from Moldova. The situation was discussed at the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and his deputy Galina Antyufeeva.

Minister of Economic Development Sergei Obolonik said that the Moldovan side violated agreements and introduced additional restrictions for Pridnestrovian enterprises in 2023. Export was also blocked this year, that is why tax revenues have decreased. The amount of taxes for the enterprises Elektromash, Moldavizolit and Bendery Potential decreased by 1.2 million rubles in January. Business losses this year could range from $12 to $33 million due to new customs duties.

The situation affected the work of individual entrepreneurs; they began to import less goods. The monthly amount of shortfalls in the state budget from this category of payers may amount to about 1.7 million rubles. Minister Sergei Obolonik noted that the positive dynamics in payments only for road tolls, and due to the increase in duties on the export of corn and wheat.

Deputies of the Consultative Assembly raised the topic of food security along with the deterioration of the socio-economic situation and a decrease in the volume of food imports into the republic. The minister noted that the state is providing support measures to agricultural enterprises. This includes the provision of preferential loans, milk subsidies, and subsidizing part of the cost of purchasing breeding heifers. Sergei Obolonik emphasized in addition that the volume of grain allows us to fully satisfy the republic’s need for bread and ensure the supply of grain for export.

The import of sugar, fertilizers, oils of animal and vegetable origin, cotton, shoes, and clothing decreased significantly at the same time. Sergei Obolonik noted that large enterprises are idle, and there is an outflow of personnel due to the blockade actions of Moldova. These issues are raised in the course of meetings of political representatives and meetings of expert working groups. Deputies of the Consultative Assembly want to draw attention to the deteriorating economic situation in Pridnestrovie. They will prepare an appeal to Russia and international human rights organizations.

The first Pridnestrovian deputies in addition will send their proposals to the Ministry of Economic Development for the development of the PMR economy in the conditions of economic pressure from Moldova. They will cover issues including import substitution, preserving human resources and providing assistance to those who have lost their jobs due to the shutdown of enterprises.
