The Ministry of Education powers were expanded by deputies

11.10.2023

The Ministry of Education was given the right to determine the procedure, form and timing of current and intermediate certification in schools and technical schools. The authors of the law-in-draft on amendments to the law “On Education” were deputies of the Committee on Education, Public Associations and Media Igor Buga, Andrey Safonov and Pavel Shinkaryuk.

As the authors noted, only the process of conducting final certification is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, according to the current version of the law “On Education”. The issues of conducting intermediate and current certification are regulated locally.

The new norms consolidate the right of the Ministry of Education to develop a regulatory document that will regulate the process of conducting current and intermediate certifications, including the procedure for conducting transfer exams and assigning grades for quarters and for the current year.

The deputies supported in the course of the plenary meeting the initiative of their colleagues in two readings at once. Changes and additions to the PMR Law “On Education” will come into force 60 days after signing by the President.

Another law-in-draft on introducing amendments to the PMR Law “On Education”, developed by the Government, was considered by deputies in the course of the plenary. There will be a new concept “information system for recording academic progress” in the relevant law. We are talking about the work of the automated information system “Electronic Journal”, which is well known to many Pridnestrovians. The relevant law will consolidate the powers of the Ministry of Education in determining the procedure for using the “Electronic Journal” and the list of educational organizations that use this information system for recording academic progress.

Deputies supported the law-in-draft in the second final reading. The new norms will come into force immediately after signing by the President and official publication.
