Day of Family, Love and Fidelity in Borisovsky Square

09.07.2024

Pridnestrovie celebrated the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity on July 8. Festive events were traditionally held in Borisovsky Square in Bendery, in constituency No. 3 “Borisovsky”. A family holiday for adults and children was organized by the Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Oleg Petrik.

The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is dedicated to the Orthodox day of remembrance of the saints Prince Peter and his wife Fevronia. Their story began with a miracle. The noble prince Peter, who ascended the Murom throne, fell ill with leprosy. His serious illness could not be treated, but one day in a dream the prince had a vision that the maiden Fevronia, the daughter of a beekeeper from the village of Laskovo in the Ryazan land, could heal him. The virgin healed Prince Peter, for which he took her as his wife. Peter truly fell in love with Fevronia and could not imagine how he lived without her before. Their family, where mutual feelings, trust and harmony always reigned, became a symbol of true devotion. According to legend, they died on the same day - June 25 (new style - July 8) 1228. Peter and Fevronia were canonized by the Orthodox Church at a church council in 1547. Their relics are kept in the Church of the Holy Trinity of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Murom.

The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity was first widely celebrated on July 8, 2008 in Russia. Since then, this holiday has been celebrated in other countries of the post-Soviet space including Pridnestrovie.

Dance lessons were organized for residents of the Borisovka microdistrict at the very beginning of the holiday. A master class for adults and children was conducted by choreographer Viktor Gogol. Children danced disco, and adults twirled to the rhythm of the waltz and danced a square dance.

The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is a good family holiday. Many people came to Borisovsky Square with their entire families on this day. It was for them that after the fiery dances, fun family starts were held. 5 families took part in the competition. They sang songs, solved riddles, danced, painted a family portrait, showed pantomime and even made beads from pasta. Everyone completed the tasks perfectly. Friendship won. Valuable and tasty prizes went to everyone. Among the daredevils who took part in the fun competitions was the Vasilyuk family. The couple have been together for 18 years, 16 of which have been happily married. They are raising a daughter.

A lottery was held for residents of the microdistrict in the evening. The lucky owners of the winning numbers received from the hands of the deputy of the Supreme Council for electoral district No. 3 “Borisovsky”. Oleg Petrik presented the lottery winners with soft toys and tasty prizes. The program of festive events concluded with an open-air film screening. Residents of the district at 21:30 were shown a good family comedy “Yours, Mine, Ours”.
