Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers in the Cities of Pridnestrovie

A ceremony of laying flowers at the resting places of internationalist soldiers was held at the Memorial of Military Glory in Dubossary on February 15. It was attended by the heads of the city and district, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Boris German, representatives of the Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan of the Dubossary District, law enforcement agencies, the territorial branch of the Republican Political Party "Obnovlenie", and public organizations. Activists of "Youth Renovation" presented fresh flowers to Afghan veterans during the event.

The parliamentarian wished the Afghan veterans health, good spirits and faith that their feat was not in vain and not forgotten. The Afghans thanked in turn for the material assistance that Boris German provided to the Dubossary Union of Afghan War Veterans on the eve of the memorable date.

Residents of Dubossary laid flowers at the memorial sign and at the burial sites of internationalist soldiers in the cemeteries of the city and villages of the district, as well as at the Mound of Gloryon this day traditionally. There are currently 39 burial sites of Afghans in Dubossary and the Dubossary district. 140 Dubossary residents went through the war in Afghanistan totally. Three Dubossary residents died while performing their international duty in Afghanistan: Lieutenant Colonel Anatoly Abdeyev, Sergeant Georgy Pavaluk and Private Andrey Ursul. Many internationalist soldiers were wounded. In the 90s of the 20th century, Afghans died in military actions while defending Pridnestrovie: Lieutenant Sergey Gavrish, Ensign Alexander Kralev, Private Vladimir Mironyuk, Junior Sergeant Yuri Ulyanov.

Dozens of Afghan soldiers have passed away during the years since the end of the Afghan war. Their memory was honored with a minute of silence, and fresh flowers were laid at the graves of the heroes - the traditional action "Memory Watch" took place on February 15.

Rybnitsa celebrated the 36th anniversary of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan on February 14. A requiem meeting was held in memory of the fallen internationalist soldiers. Deputies of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic from Rybnitsa electoral districts together with residents and the leadership of the city, took part in the ceremonial event of laying flowers at the Memorial of Glory to the Defenders of the Fatherland. Among the participants in the military operations in Afghanistan, 200 Rybnitsa residents fought, 9 of them did not return home, one Afghan soldier died defending Pridnestrovie.

The memory of internationalist soldiers was honored in Slobodzeya on February 14. The ceremonial events began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the fallen internationalist soldiers. Parliamentarian Pavel Shinkaryuk, as well as veterans of military operations, military personnel, and residents of the city and district, took part in the ceremony together with the district leadership.

A ceremonial meeting and a concert were held in the district House of Culture after that. Welcoming remarks were made by the head of the state administration of the Slobodzeya district and the city of Slobodzeya Vasily Tishchenko, the chairman of the Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan Yuri Baboy, as well as participants in those events. They emphasized in their speech the importance of preserving the memory of the feat of internationalist soldiers and expressed gratitude to those who honorably fulfilled their civic and military duty. It was noted that the Afghan war left a deep mark on the history of the country and the fates of thousands of families, and the feat of the participants in the hostilities will forever remain an example of courage and loyalty to the oath. Afghan war veteran Yuriy Yermuratiy on this memorable day was awarded the Order of Honor, and the deputy of the district city council Sergey Sheshnitsan received a letter of thanks from the NGO "Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan of Slobodzeya District" for assistance in installing a monument in the village of Karagash.

The memory of those killed in the Afghan war was honored at the Black Tulip in Bendery on February 15. Let us recall that the last unit of Soviet troops left Afghanistan 36 years ago. The column was then closed by an armored personnel carrier with the commander of the 40th Army Boris Gromov. More than half a million servicemen, including Pridnestrovians, took part in the hostilities in Afghanistan. 72 people received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. More than 15 thousand of our soldiers died on foreign soil, 6 thousand subsequently died from wounds and diseases, 311 people went missing. These were the biggest losses of the Soviet Army since the Great Patriotic War. 15 residents of Bendery did not return home alive.
