Liberation Day in Korotnoye

11.04.2024

The 80th anniversary of the liberation from the German-Romanian invaders was celebrated in the village of Korotnoye, Slobodzeya district. Almost the entire village gathered to honor the memory of those who died during the liberation in 1944 at the rural Memorial of Glory.

Modern residents know how the village was liberated from the memoirs of the liberators. Excerpts from them were read out at the Memorial of Glory by a history teacher at a rural school.

The village history museum carefully collected all the photographs and memories that the liberators brought here to Korotnoye after the Victory over Nazi Germany for many years. One of the most valuable exhibits is a restored black and white photo. It turns exactly 80 years old on April 11. It shows a young woman saying goodbye to a dead man.

Maria Filyasova is one of those who have been coming to Korotnoye for many years. The village maintained contact with its liberators for many years. None of them were left alive 80 years later.

Only the names of the liberators remained on the Glory Memorial in Korotny. There are other granite slabs with names nearby. These are already the indigenous inhabitants of the village. Those who went to fight after liberation, but never returned home. There were more than 260 villagers of them. There are always a lot of flowers here on April 11 and May 9 in memory of those who gave their lives for peace.

April 11, 1944, the liberation day of Slobodzeya is also celebrated. A memorial rally took place at the Memorial of Glory in the Russian part of the city, according to the website of the Slobodzeya State Administration. Grateful descendants honored the memory of the hero-liberators and residents of Slobodzeya who died during the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.

Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Pavel Shinkaryuk congratulated local residents on the anniversary. The meeting ended with the laying of flowers at the obelisk and slabs of the Glory Memorial.
