The 15th of October is the International White Cane Day. This is not a holiday, but a reminder of every person who walks with a cane painted white on the streets of our cities – blind or visually impaired. On International White Cane Day a month of events, during which special attention will be paid to people who are completely blind and visually impaired, started in the constituency No.28 “Central”, on the initiative of deputy Ilona Tyuryaeva.
There will be an excursion to the Kitskansky Novo-Nyametsky Monastery for the society of the blind tomorrow. They will be able to visit the churches, learn about the history of the monastery and its modern way of life at the monastery. The brethren of the monastery prepared refreshments in the refectory after the excursion.
There will be special lectures for children, during which students from the medical faculty of the state university will tell children how to take care of their own vision and conduct a quiz in the capital school No.3, which is located in the constituency No.28. The schoolchildren after that will be taken on an excursion to the Rassvet enterprise and a rehabilitation center for the visually impaired.
Volunteer helpers will take to the central streets of Tiraspol as part of the month of the white cane. They will hand out handouts to passers-by, telling them how they can help a stranger with vision problems.
A culinary competition will be held at the center for visually impaired and blind women. According to Ilona Tyuryaeva, such events are very important. They not only integrate visually impaired and blind people into society, but also educate and teach society to help people with special needs.
A festive concert will be held in the constituency No. 28 “Central” in the “Athletic” rehabilitation center at the end of the White Cane Month on the eve of the International Day of the Blind, the 13th of November. Visually impaired artists will also take part in it. Students of the Institute of Arts will show performances that they prepared based on the work of blind poets, singers and composers.
