The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked around the world on January 27. This day in 1945, the Soviet Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz - Birkenau (Poland), in which, according to various estimates, from 1.5 to 4 million people died.

Victims of fascism are remembered annually this day in Pridnestrovie. A meeting was held in Tiraspol at the monument, opened a year ago on the occasion of a memorable day. Representatives of the government bodies, the public, labor collectives and students gathered here, the website of the Obnovlenie party informs.

The appealof the President Vadim Krasnoselsky was read at the meeting, which noted that “The Holocaust has not bypassed our land either, more than 18,000 Jews were destroyed by the Nazis and their assistants in Dubossary, and more than 40,000 Jews were killed in Pridnestrovie. There is not and cannot be a statute of limitations for crimes such as the Holocaust”.

The President urged to resist manifestations of anti-Semitism, attempts to split society on the basis of national, racial, religious grounds.

The Supreme Council Deputy Grigory Dyachenko spoke about the danger of genocide, the problem of which in the world has not disappeared.

The event in honor of the mournful date was held at the Dubossary Memorial of the victims of fascism.

The participants honored the memory of the victims of the Holocaust with a minute of silence and laid flowers on the memorial signs and graves of civilians shot by the German-Romanian invaders in September 1941. Approximately 18,500 people were shot in Dubossary according to the assessment of the tragedy witnesses, historians and local historians from September 12 to September 28, 1941.
