State of emergency in the economy extended for the third time

The state of emergency in Pridnestrovie will last until January 30, 2023 inclusive. The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the course of the 4th extraordinary meeting unanimously voted today for the approval of the relevant Decree of the PMR President.

Paragraphs 1 and 2 of Article 12 of the Constitutional Law of the PMR “On Special Legal Regimes” stipulate that the duration of the state of emergency introduced throughout the territory of the PMR cannot exceed 30 days. The state of emergency in the economy is in force in Pridnestrovie until December 31 inclusive. Today's extension is the third in a row.

The explanation notes that such a decision was made “due to the failure to normalize the economic situation caused by the reduction in the volume of natural gas supplied to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and as a result the insufficiency of natural gas to supply industrial consumers, heat supply organizations, consumers of electric energy and the impossibility of fulfilling in full volume of obligations to generate electricity for export, as well as in connection with the continuing need to ensure measures to bring the state economy out of the crisis.

The state of emergency in the economy in Pridnestrovie for the first time in 32 years was introduced on October 21, 2022, when Moldova unilaterally reduced the contractual supply of natural gas from Russia to our republic. Large budget-forming enterprises were stopped due to the lack of “blue fuel”, the production of export electricity by the MGRES stopped, which led to a shortfall in revenues to the state budget, and it was necessary to save on the supply of electricity and heat within the republic. The situation with gas supplies improved in early December, a contract was signed for the supply of electricity to Moldova, but so far the situation is far from normal. Pridnestrovie will have to live until the end of the outgoing year and the first month of the new year in the state of emergency in the economy.
