Authorities, environmentalists, civil society have long been alarmed at the decrease in the bioresources of the Dniester, including fauna, and specifically fish. In order to minimize damage to the natural environment, the Bendery City Council of People's Deputies came up with a legislative initiative to impose criminal liability for poaching (now the administrative one is acting). It was considered during held today plenary session.
A number of people's representatives within the framework of the discussion considered the introduction of a criminal liability measure excessive and proposed to significantly increase the penalties for poaching in order to replenish the budget. Currently, the size of administrative fees varies from 100 to 1000 MW, depending on who commits this offense. At the same time, the Criminal Code punishes infringers with a fine of 700 to 1700 MW, or compulsory work (up to 240 hours), correctional labor for up to two years. For those who engage in poaching, using official position or as part of an organized group, the amount of fines increases to 2500 MW. For this, he will be deprived of his liberty for two years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain posts for three years.
Other parliamentarians, supporting the law-in-draft in principle, drew attention to the need to compile a complete list of funds that should be banned for underwater fishing. In their opinion, the laws should contain clear and exhaustive language.
As a reference, it should be noted that on the territory of Pridnestrovie there is only one place where underwater fishing is allowed - the Kuchurgan reservoir.
22 deputies voted for the adoption of the law-in-draft "On Amendments to the Criminal Code", which establish criminal liability for poaching.
