A quarter of a century ago, July 29, 1992, the first military unit of Russian peacekeepers arrived in Pridnestrovie. It was a sign - the war was over. Soldiers and officers with blue chevrons became the guardians of peace and security on the banks of the Dniester.
A quarter of a century later they opened a monument in Bendery on the alley of peacekeepers. The column consisted of the leaders of the republic, including Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva, Deputies of the Supreme and local Soviets, citizens. In their hands, flowers are a tribute of gratitude to servicemen of Russia, Pridnestrovie and Moldova for hard work, for peace and tranquility in homes, for the smiles of children, for the opportunity to live and not to hear the deadly whistle of bullets and shells.
President Vadim Krasnoselsky opened the solemn ceremony.
The head of the local state administration Roman Ivanchenko spoke at the meeting what was meant by the peacekeeping operation for residents of Bendery in the bloody-hot 92. Expressing the common opinion of fellow countrymen, he noted that the Bendery women will never forget the day of July 29, 1992.
Sergei Rybakov, Senior Military Chief of the Russian Federation's military contingent, also spoke highly of the peacekeepers, assured that while the Russian soldier is here, peace and security are guaranteed.
The honorable right to open the monument was given to President Vadim Krasnoselsky, the co-chairman of the JCC from Pridnestrovie, the deputy of the Supreme Council Oleg Belyakov, the head of the Bendery state administration Roman Ivanchenko and the acting co-chairman of the JCC from the Russian Federation Petru Urzhumov. The consecration of the monument to peacekeepers was conducted by the representative of the Diocese of Tiraspol-Dubossary, Protopriest Octavian Kalmyk. After that the grateful Pridnestrovians, resident of Bendery laid flowers to the monument, authored by Sergei Gorbachenko.
The ceremonial meeting of the Joint Control Commission began a few minutes later in the Palace P. Tkachenko.
Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antufeeva in an interview with the parliamentary press service commented on the event that took place today in Bendery.
