April 1, like June 19, will forever remain in the memory of the residents of Bendery. On April morning in 1992, two armored personnel carriers of the Moldovan OPON entered the city treacherously. Of these, the nationalists opened fire to patrol car of the Pridnestrovian traffic militia and shot passing bus with workers of cotton spinning factory. Igor Grek, Anatoly Petrov died, Grigory Yechin died later. Pridnestrovian guardsmen, whose cantonment buildings were located a few blocks from the armed incident as well as the people militia of the repair plant came to the aid of the state traffic inspectors that morning. But they were attacked by Moldavian armored vehicles. In a straight line of fire was guardsman Viktor Taranov, as well as the militiamen Alexander Barbakar and Sergei Babuek. They all died. 14 people were injured. Later, the former st. Sovkhoznaya street was renamed to Captain Yechin Street, a chapel was installed at the scene of the shooting of the militiamen.
