The Balance was redressed

18.04.2018

Legislative initiatives aimed at returning to the main supervisory authority the functions it was deprived of by the former leadership of the republic in 2012 were introduced to parliament last spring by the President Vadim Krasnoselsky. Their goal is to restore the balance of the law enforcement system, to establish a clear distinction between prosecutor's supervision and the investigative process. One of the essential addendum to the basic law is the return of the prosecutor's authority to carry out public prosecution in court. A package of legislations defining the role and functions of the prosecutor's office was adopted today, during the plenary session by the Supreme Council in final reading.

The work on the amendments continued for a year. Deputies, representatives of the prosecutor's office, courts, the Investigative Committee, executive authorities and the president of the republic took part in discussion. The prosecutor of the republic Anatoly Guretsky called adopted today in the final reading of the legislations, the result of "great scrupulous work". He expressed gratitude to all participants of the legislative process.

Amendments are made to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the laws "On the Investigative Committee" and "On Operative-Search Activity" along with the law "On the Prosecutor's Office of the PMR". The general position of parliamentarians was expressed by the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba. He noted the special role of the supervisory authority in the development of the statehood of Pridnestrovie.

Alexander Shcherba also noted the merit of the acting prosecutor of the republic Anatoly Guretsky, who for 30 years has been actively involved in the process of improving the activities of the supervisory authority. The Speaker of the Parliament wished the employees of the Prosecutor's Office honestly perform the functions.

The adopted legislations are sent to the President for signature.
