Automobiles with a car trailers for drivers with category B

13.04.2022

Deputies of the Supreme Council adopted amendments to the Law of the PMR "On Road Safety" in the second final reading today. They clarify the rights of drivers with category B. We are talking about the ability to drive a car with a trailer attached.

The law-in-draft specifies that the weight of a trailer may exceed 750 kg. Provided that the trailer is not heavier than the car itself, and their total weight does not exceed 3.5 tons. The driver can use his driver's license with category B in this case.

The driver was required to obtain an additional category C1regardless of the weight of the car for a trailer weighing more than 750 kg in the current legislation.

However, such a restriction cannot affect road safety in any way according to the author of the legislative initiative, parliamentarian Grigory Dyachenko. The parliamentarian suggested changing the approach. A driver with category B, when using a trailer, must remember a little mathematics and calculate the total weight of the trailer with the car (no more than 3.5 tons) and take into account that the car must be heavier than the trailer. Grigory Dyachenko noted at the plenary session that similar norms are in force both in Russia and Ukraine.

The deputies adopted the law-in-draft in the second final reading today. The document has been sent to the President for signature.
