On the eve of the International Roma Day, which is celebrated on April 8, in Tiraspol a round table was held on the topic "The role of Roma in the history of this region of Europe". The event was held within the framework of cooperation between Pridnestrovie and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. It was attended by representatives of the Roma communities, as well as other national diasporas of Pridnestrovie, journalists, scientists, representatives of executive authorities, parliamentarians.
Chairman of the Association of National Diasporas of Pridnestrovie Robert Kirakosyan addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He called on the representatives of ethnic groups to jointly solve the problems of people regardless of their nationality.
The main problems of the Roma today are difficulties in finding a job, providing housing, a large percentage of illiteracy, as well as the stereotypes that have developed in society in relation to people of this nationality. The participants of the round table and representatives of the Roma communities who found themselves in life spoke about the possibility of solving these issues. A journalist from Moldova, the leader of the Roma Women's Site, Elena Sirbu, exemplified the stories of women who were able to get a profession, find their vocation and succeed. The journalist wrote a book about it.
Commenting on the participation of parliamentarians in the round table meeting on the Roma, Deputy Safonov emphasized the importance of each of the national groups in the development of the republic.
The friendly communication demonstrated by the participants of the event once again showed how people in Pridnestrovie treat people of different ethnic groups and nationalities.
