Andrei Safonov, "Here will be gas, and that's for sure"

22.01.2025

The goal of the Moldovan authorities, who are delaying the process of settling the issue of gas supplies to Pridnestrovie is strangling the Pridnestrovian economy and the statehood of the PMR in general. This is the opinion of the deputy of the Supreme Council, political scientist Andrei Safonov. He expressed his position regarding the energy crisis in the PMR to the parliamentary press service.

Andrei Safonov is the deputy chairman of the Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media, representing the interests of the residents of Rybnitsa constituency No. 15 "Kirovsky" in the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The situation in his district is difficult in the conditions of the energy crisis as in all cities and villages of the republic, Andrei Safonov said. Residents of multi-storey buildings have been left without heating and hot water, Pridnestrovians heat rooms with electric appliances in apartments and private houses since the beginning of January in the absence of gas. Many heat stoves or solid fuel boilers as an alternative. 4 people have died due to poisoning by combustion products: 2 people while using gas devices, 2 people while using a stove since January, according to statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The political scientist expressed the point of view that gas will soon be supplied to Pridnestrovie. European countries are interested in gas being supplied, including through the "Turkish Stream": Hungary, Slovakia, and some other countries, noted Andrei Safonov.

The main issue, as the parliamentarian noted, is that gas is supplied to Pridnestrovie in the volume necessary for the operation of Pridnestrovian enterprises.
