Alexander Shcherba, "Improving the legal system is an important part of the state development strategy"

A round table discussion on "Lessons of elections in the PMR" took place at the PSU named after T. Shevchenko. The conference was attended by the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, the head of the Central Election Commission Elena Gorodetskaya, teachers and students of the State University, public figures. The round table discussed topical issues of the electoral process in Pridnestrovie, as well as the need to reform the legislation in this part.

The event was timed to two dates: the 27th anniversary of the formation of the Central Election Commission, as well as the first anniversary of the December 2016 presidential election.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council, Alexander Shcherba, noted that it is necessary to approach the reform of the legislation in the sphere of electoral law gradually and thoughtfully. Perfection of the legal system is an integral part of the development strategy of the state.

Co-chairman of the Pridnestrovian People's Forum Yuri Cheban spoke about the need to include members of the public in the CEC in the future.

The conference participants raised such topical issues as violations of the principle of equality of passive electoral rights, ways of countering the administrative resource. In addition, the speakers spoke about the need to change the age limit of suffrage. Also, the round table participants agreed that it is necessary to involve youth more actively in the electoral process.
