Alexander Scherba, "The unfriendly actions of Moldovan government towards the people of Pridnestrovie are carried out on the initiative and under the pressure of Kiev"

08.06.2017

Deputies, members of the Federation Council, representatives of Moldova and Pridnestrovie took part in the discussion. Opening the round table, the Committee Chairman Leonid Kalashnikov noted that Ukraine, being the official guarantor and mediator of the settlement of the situation in Pridnestrovie, is actually turning to the side of the conflict, creating a hotbed of tension and undermining the peace initiatives of Moldovan President Igor Dodon and Pridnestrovian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky. Kalashnikov also recalled that about 200,000 Russian citizens live in Pridnestrovie.

The chairman of the friendship group with Russia in the Moldovan parliament Zinaida Greceanii criticized the decision of the Moldovan government to expel five Russian diplomats from the country. There have not been any precedents in the history of Moldova, she emphasized, noting that the actions of the Moldovan government are directed against their own citizens.

The Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Gubarev, expressed bewilderment at the fact that the OSCE, which should facilitate the negotiation process in every possible way, hinders this work. According to him, for the further settlement, we need firm guarantees from Ukraine and Moldova that they will not unilaterally take actions that worsen the situation of one of the parties, in particular, Pridnestrovie. The issue of implementing the agreements reached in the "5 + 2" format in national legislation should also be resolved. One such agreement is a protocol on freedom of movement.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of Pridnestrovie Alexander Scherba said that the unfriendly actions of the Moldovan government towards the people of Pridnestrovie are carried out on the initiative and under the pressure of Kiev.

Participants in the discussion spoke in favor of continuing the dialogue and recreating the atmosphere of trust between the parties. They appealed to the Ukrainian and Moldovan authorities, as well as to the OSCE with an appeal to intensify the negotiation process in the "5 + 2" format to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Pridnestrovie.
