Solemn opening of a monument of memory innocently killed in days of fascist occupation of 1941-1944 took place in Tiraspol. The date of the opening was not accidental: 73 years ago, Soviet troops liberated the largest Nazi death camp of Auschwitz, which killed, according to various estimates, from 1.5 to 4 million people. The UN resolution 2005, January 27 declared the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust.
Representatives of authorities, Jewish communities of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, religious confessions, civil society, residents and guests of the capital took part in the opening ceremony of the monument in Tiraspol. The honorable right to open the monument was given to the chairman of the Jewish community of Moldova Alexander Bilinkis and the former prisoner of fascism Suzanne Lebedeva. Speaking to the audience, the representative of the Jewish community recalled the six million Jews who were innocent killed during the Second World War. He also told about the fate of his relatives.
Alexander Bilinkis expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, parliamentarians for their help and support in installing the monument. According to the Speaker of the Parliament, as well as for the entire world community, this memorable date is significant and important for Pridnestrovians.
The speaker recalled that the aggression of nationalism to Pridnestrovians again was experienced 27 years ago. It was only thanks to the Russian peacekeeper that the tragedy was stopped. Alexander Shcherba assured that the work of public organizations to preserve historical memory on the Pridnestrovian land will always find the support of the state.
