The history of the formation of the Armed Forces of Pridnestrovie dates back to 1991, when the Supreme Council adopted a resolution "On measures to protect the sovereignty and independence of the republic" and the creation of the Republican Guard, the current prototype of the armed forces of the republic. In 1992, the Guards, militiamen, Cossacks and volunteers of the young state stood up for defense, defended independence, showing examples of courage and heroism. After the end of hostilities in the republic, the Ministry of Defense was created, which became the guarantor of the independence of the state and its protection.

A solemn meeting was held on the occasion of the celebration of the 27th anniversary of the formation of the Armed Forces in the Palace of the Republic. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky, the first president of the PMR Igor Smirnov, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, head of the Ministry of Defense Oleg Obruchkov, representatives of ministries, departments, public organizations, military personnel, veterans of the armed forces, defenders of the republic were present in the hall with a minute of silence of the heroes , who at the cost of life defended the freedom and independence of Pridnestrovie.

Defense Minister Oleg Obruchkov during the solemn meeting focused on improving the organizational and staff structure and the material and technical base of the republic's armed forces, improving the training process of servicemen.

Commander-in-Chief Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized the need to strengthen military ideology, highlighting the main directions of development of the Pridnestrovian army. Among them – there is staffing of personnel, improvement of the material and technical base. According to the President, it is planned to allocate funds from the capital investment fund to bring the department's internal infrastructure into proper form next year.

They talked during the meeting about the positive dynamics of the work of the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School, established last year, as well as the military institute of the republic.

In honor of the 27th anniversary of the formation of the Armed Forces, a number of servicemen were awarded with state awards, distinguished were awarded the next military ranks.
