Customs officials from 183 countries of the world celebrate their professional holiday - International Day of Customs on January 26. The State Customs Committee of the PMR in various spheres of customs activity bases its work on the priorities of the World Customs Organization.
Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov emphasized that in a difficult year for the whole planet in 2020, when border crossing was limited, and the main point of prevention remains the lack of contacts or social distance, the State Customs Committee of the PMR showed that it is ready for the online regime in working with economic agents and citizens. This became possible thanks to the digitalization strategy of the customs sphere. Developed communication system and Internet technologies have been formed for several years within its framework. According to the website of the State Customs Committee of the PMR, almost 4 thousand people used online consulting services in 2020. This is almost 2 times more than a year earlier.
Let me remind you that practically a new Customs Code has been in effect in Pridnestrovie since 2018. The PMR Supreme Council made almost 400 amendments to the current document. This greatly simplified export-import operations. The State Customs Committee of the PMR emphasized before the entry into force of the amendments in 2017 that the new concept of the code made it possible to find a balance between the functions assigned to the customs authorities (protection of economic interests, collection of customs payments) and assistance in business development, creation of simple administrative mechanisms that contribute to the development of the production potential of the republic and business.
International experts after studying the New Customs Code of the PMR called it corresponding to the norms of international law.
