The presence of military personnel of the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation in our republic for 29 years has guaranteed Pridnestrovians a peaceful life without tears and suffering, childhood without war, development of the state and economy in modern conditions, said the speaker of the Pridnestrovian parliament Alexander Korshunov.
The basis of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie is the Agreement on the principles of the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict, signed on July 21, 1992 in Moscow by the Presidents of Russia and Moldova Boris Yeltsin and Mircea Snegur in the presence of the President of the PMR Igor Smirnov.
The agreement created the political and legal conditions for the entry of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, the formation of trilateral peacekeeping forces, and the creation of the Joint Control Commission.
Today, the military personnel of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces serve at 15 stationary posts and checkpoints in the Security Zone, control the situation in the safety zone by military observers, and the peacekeeping operation itself, conducted under the auspices of the Russian Federation, is the foundation for the entire regional security system.
The speaker noted that over the past years, there have been repeated attempts to discredit the peacekeeping operation, and there have been numerous calls from various politicians to liquidate or reformat the Russian peacekeeping mission on the Dniester.
Alexander Korshunov emphasized: Pridnestrovians respect and honor the service of peacekeepers. During the most successful peacekeeping operation in the world, not a single person was killed. The military duty of the peacekeepers in our republic is immortalized. A monument to the peacekeepers was erected, the Alley of peacekeepers was broken, and on July 29, when Russian servicemen entered Bendery and Dubossary and became the guarantor of peace, it is a memorable Day of the Russian peacekeeper in our republic.
