Funeral events dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Bendery tragedy continued at the Borisov cemetery in the city of Bendery. The leadership of the republic, the clergy, public figures, widows, mothers and children of fallen heroes, caring citizens honored the memory of the defenders of Bendery by laying flowers at granite monuments. Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary held a memorial service in memory of the fallen defenders of the city and the republic.
The defenders of Bendery by tradition were remembered by name. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and deputies, the Government Chairman Alexander Rosenberg, ministers, public figures laid flowers not only at the monument erected in honor of all Pridnestrovians who defended the city and country, but also at the graves of every hero of Bendery.
Among those who came today to honor the memory of the fallen heroes is Lyubov Burdiyan, a participant in hostilities. Lyubov Dmitrievna worked as the head of the personnel department at the Bendery shoe factory in 1992.
Georgy Ivanovich Egorov was born in Leningrad. After serving more than 30 years in the armed forces, he came to Bendery. Immediately actively involved in the socio-political life of the city, was elected to the Working Committee of Bendery. It was Georgy Yegorov who managed to gather ordinary workers and civilians and organize a people's militia in 1989. In the summer of 1992, he headed the City Defense Headquarters. Georgy Egorov was awarded the Order of Merit II degree and the Order for personal courage for his contribution to the formation and formation of the units of the people's militia for the protection of the PMR. He took an active part in the work of the city Council of Veterans then, carried out a lot of work on the military-patriotic education of youth. Georgy Ivanovich passed away in 2016 at the age of 81.
The memory of the fallen defenders of the republic was honored today not only in the city of Bendery. Funeral rallies were held at the memorials of Glory in all cities and regions of the PMR.
A traditional city mass event "Wreath of Memory", dedicated to the Day of the Bendery Tragedy, was held at the memorial of Military Glory in Dubossary. Deputy of the PMR Supreme Council Boris German took part in it.
