The tradition of holding an international youth round table on the basis of the Department of Political Science and Political Analysis of the Institute of Public Administration, Law, and Social Sciences and Humanities of Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko appeared 4 years ago. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Moldova proposed to hold a round table in Pridnestrovie on topical political issues in honor of the 90th anniversary of the famous Soviet and Russian politician and diplomat Yevgeny Primakov in 2019. The topics of discussion this time were the wars of the new generation and the participation of young people in politics. Informational extremism and ways to counter it were chosen as the leitmotif of the round table this year.
The problem of informational extremism for Pridnestrovie is relevant today, but not new, said the Head of the Department of Political Science and Political Analysis. External forces have formed and continue to form a negative information background around Pridnestrovie for many years.
Among the participants of the round table this year there are students from various fields – future political scientists, managers, PR specialists, and specialists in the field of computer science. The deputies of the Youth Parliament under the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic took part in the discussion. The younger generation has a special, modern view of existing problems today. They have the opportunity in the course of such discussions to offer interesting and non-standard ways to solve them, said director of the Institute of Public Administration, Law and Social Sciences and Humanities Elena Bobkova in her welcoming speech.
Information security is an important element of the entire system of national security of any state, the participants of the round table noted today. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic signed in 2020 the Strategy for Countering Extremism in the PMR for 2020-2026, which emphasizes the importance of combating information extremism.
According to the participants of the round table, the threats of information extremism were the result of information wars, in which information and disinformation become a dangerous weapon. Students, teachers and experts discussed the world experience in combating information extremism and terrorism, gave examples that can be adopted in Pridnestrovie.
They talked about the influence of feature and documentary films on the formation of political thinking, as well as about the problems of cyberterrorism and cybersecurity. Particular attention was focused on the influence of the media on public consciousness, as well as on the possibility of using this influence in the fight against information extremism and cyber extremism. The results of the round table were summed up by the chairman of the commission for the development of international relations of the Youth Parliament of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vasily Badyan.
A resolution, which will contain recommendations in the field of countering information extremism will be drawn up, based on the results of the round table. They plan to send it to state authorities in the future.
