"Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten": for every quarter, for every house ...

02.02.2021

The Soviet army won the Battle of Stalingrad from German troops 78 years ago. More than half a million soldiers and officers of the Red Army were killed in the battle on the banks of the Volga, which lasted more than six months. Natives of Pridnestrovian villages and towns took part in the battles for Victory.

Stalingrad (Volgograd) connected the central regions of the USSR with the Caucasian republics and Central Asia. Oil was transported from the Caucasus along the Volga. Fascist Germany by capturing Stalingrad would cut off the water and land communications necessary for the Soviet Union and create problems with the supply of the Red Army. The capture of Stalingrad would be a disaster for the USSR.

200 heroic days of the defense of Stalingrad went down in history as the most bloody and cruel. The battles were fought for every quarter, for every house.

Tens of thousands of soldiers and officers who showed heroism in the battles for Stalingrad were awarded government awards. 112 of the most distinguished soldiers of the Red Army became Heroes of the Soviet Union. The medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad" was awarded to 754 thousand of its defenders.

Among them there are residents of Tiraspol Alexander Pogrebnoy and Evdokia Danilevskaya. Both served in airfield battalions and defended the Stalingrad sky. The website of the News of Pridnestrovie agency on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad told about the natives of our republic, who bravely fought against the Nazis on the Volga. The struggle in the information field near Stalingrad was led by political instructor Ilya Muntian from Slobodzeya. Senior sergeant Boris Voropaev, who lived after the war in Gorky Street in Tiraspol, as part of an anti-tank artillery regiment, fought for Smolensk, defended Moscow, fought in Stalingrad and Kursk, and liberated Pridnestrovie. They wrote in the press about his fight with the German "tigers" near the village of Vladimirovka, Slobodzeya region. Miner Anton Konstantinov comes from the same village. The senior lieutenant received a medal "For Courage" for the fact that, together with the soldiers near the location of the Germans in three nights, he planted 559 anti-tank mines and thereby helped the infantrymen to repulse four enemy attacks.

They remember in Russia and in many countries of the former USSR the heroes who died and who survived in the bloody battles for Stalingrad on February 2, one of the most important Days of Russia's Military Glory - the Day of the defeat of Nazi German troops in the Battle of Stalingrad by Soviet troops.

You can honor the immortal deeds of the heroes by joining the national campaign “Chamomile of Victory. Family history of the war”. The Victory Museum was launched on the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. The website published 78 letters from the defenders of Stalingrad. Multimedia section has been operating for three years now on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation with archival documents about 200 days of the battle on the Volga.
