The People's Diplomat

Veniamin Yakovlevich Potashev is one of those who stood at the origins of the creation of the PMR, its legislative authority. He actively participated in the political struggle against nationalism, against the infringement of the rights of the Russian-speaking population. He was elected to the Joint Council of Labor Collectives of Tiraspol in 1989, and then became a member of the presidiums of the city and republican strike committees. The deputy activity of Veniamin Potashev began a year later. He represented the interests of the people in the Tiraspol City Council, and then in the Supreme Council of the Moldavian SSR. He was elected to the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in 1990.

Veniamin Yakovlevich celebrates his 90th birthday with his relatives, friends, and colleagues. The jubilee was congratulated by the parliamentarians. Sergei Cheban and Grigory Dyachenko handed over a greeting to the senior colleague on behalf of the Supreme Council and Speaker Alexander Shcherba.

Veniamin Yakovlevich passed his rich life experience and professionalism to the younger generation of parliamentarians, participating in the work of the Consultative Meeting of the first Pridnestrovian deputies under the Chairman of the Supreme Council.  "People's diplomacy" is the name of the publication of memoirs of Veniamin Potashev, which he dedicated to the fateful period in the life of the republic. Veniamin Yakovlevich in his book reproduced episodes of meetings in Chisinau, Sverdlovsk, Leningrad, Moscow, Sakhalin, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg. The People's Diplomat Veniamin Potashev spoke openly at various forums and meetings about the situation in which Russian-speaking Moldovans turned out to be. In the early 1990s, along with his comrades in the struggle for a common cause, he broke through the information blockade of Pridnestrovie.

According to Veniamin Potashev, for such an active work on the breakthrough of the information blockade, "we had to get on the topic". Today, the pioneer deputy Veniamin Yakovlevich is sure that the people's diplomats from Pridnestrovie coped with this difficult task with honor.
