The First President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic is 82

The First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov accepted today congratulations on the occasion of his birthday. The statesman and political figure of Pridnestrovie turns 82 years.

On September 2, 1990, at the II Congress of Pridnestrovian deputies of all levels in Tiraspol, when the formation of the PMR was proclaimed, Igor Smirnov was elected Chairman of the Provisional Supreme Council of the PMSSR. He was elected Chairman in November 1990, after the elections of the Supreme Council of the TMSSR, then – Chairman of the Republic.

The first presidential elections were held in Pridnestrovie in 1991. Igor Smirnov won them and headed the republic for 20 years. He led the defense of Pridnestrovie during the aggression of the Republic of Moldova in 1992.

Igor Smirnov has been heading the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies under the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic since 2016.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov sent today his congratulations on the occasion of his birthday to the First President of the PMR.
